The days of the week.

The names of the days of the week in English originate from ancient astrology and the naming conventions used by the Greeks, Romans, and later Germanic peoples. They are largely based on celestial bodies and associated deities:

Sunday is named after the Sun.
Monday is named after the Moon.
The name Tuesday is derived from the Germanic god Tiu (Tiwsday), the god of war.
Wednesday is derived from the Germanic god Woden, the supreme creator among the Norse gods, which evolved into Wednesday.
Thursday is derived from the Germanic god Thor, the god of thunder.
Friday is derived from the Norse goddess Frigga, the goddess of love and the hearth.
Saturday is named after the Roman god Saturn, but in some languages, like Portuguese, it is named after the Jewish Sabbath (sábado).
